After Earth Day – Five Things To Do

Here are five things you can do to keep the Earth Day momentum going year-round.

1. Who are you going to call?

Know who to contact when you have a question about sustainability at work. It could be your sustainability consultant or a member of your office green team. If there is no point person, consider nominating someone to the task of being a green team leader.  And make sure your colleagues and tenants know there is someone they can turn to for help. Great Forest clients can always click here to ask a question or call.

2. Set a goal

It could be a simple personal goal, like a pledge to avoid single-use items; or a corporate or building-wide goal, perhaps to reduce plastic use or start a strategy of going Zero Waste. Setting a goal will give you something to work towards all year, not just on Earth Day.

3. Pay attention to E-waste

Electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world today. In the U.S., many states have started to institute rules governing their proper disposal. See this fact sheet to learn more about e-waste and universal waste, and what you should do.

4. Learn

In the spirit of Earth Day, make a personal effort to continue the “teach-in”. Pick a topic and find out more about it.  It could be Zero Waste, glass recycling, donating for reuse, carbon reporting, or something more global like pollution or climate change. Check out our Knowledge Hub for resources.

5. Do

Put what you have learnt into action. For example, knowing why and how you should recycle is great, but actually recycling properly is better. Here’s 20 tips to reduce waste oto get you started.
