Preparing for May 1 Deadline – Auto Uploads and Other NYC Benchmarking Updates

Earlier this month, Great Forest was invited to a meeting with New York City officials to go over changes ahead of this year’s benchmarking submission deadline of May 1.

Great Forest was responsible for submitting data for over 60 buildings in NYC last year, making it one of the top benchmarking consultants in the city.

Representatives from the Department of Buildings, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Office of Longterm Planning and Sustainability were present. The discussion included:

  • Introduction of a new feature enabling auto upload of water data to the benchmarking platform by linking to the DEP. This sets NYC apart from pretty much every other city in the U.S.
  • Data collected from the 2013 benchmarking was shared. NYC now has an unmatched data set on the energy usage of large buildings.
  • Changes to Portfolio Manager, such as the addition of property types so that buildings can more accurately categorize themselves and join a better comparison group.
  • Processing of penalties – buildings have a 30-day period during which they can challenge a fine.

Buildings above 50,000 sq. feet should begin preparing their data for benchmarking and using their DEP accounts to enable auto upload of their water data. Need help? Work with one of the city’s top benchmarking consultants. Call Great Forest today.
