Basking in sunlight at work might just be the next best thing to working at the beach.

Talk about harnessing the power of the sun!

According to a 2013 study, Let There Be Daylight, owners and tenants could save $70 million every year by introducing daylight responsive lighting systems.

This is how they explained it:

Most offices have their lights on even when they are not needed. This is a critical issue because maximum daylight availability (summer afternoons) coincides with peak demand- the time at which we are demanding the most energy from the grid. This peak energy is the most expensive energy, and typically the dirtiest and most harmful to our global climate because the oldest, least efficient plants are brought online to meet this need.

Note: Utility customers in New York State can also collect “daylight-driven” cost savings through curtailment and permanent controls. (Ask your Great Forest representative  for more information on Demand Response programs and related lighting incentives.)

To help spread this message, Great Forest has been participating in the annual #DaylightHour global social media campaign to raise awareness about the ability of daylight to offset the use of electric lighting in offices worldwide.

While the campaign called for offices to switch off their lights for one hour between noon and 1 p.m. on June 20, Great Forest, along with many others, kept the lights off for much longer.

Besides, day-lit spaces have been reported to promote better productivity and a sense of well-being.  Try it and you will see the difference. Basking in sunlight at work might just be the next best thing to working at the beach.
