Great Forest founder Richard Fuller’s nonprofit Pure Earth has partnered with supermodel Molly Bair and over 20 leading jewelry designers to curate a special collection of jewelry crafted using recycled, Fairtrade, or mercury-free gold for auction.
“Consumers have probably heard about ‘blood diamonds,’ but few know about gold’s connection with toxic mercury,” Richard told Vogue.
The auction is now open for bids until April 24, 2017. Funds raised will support Pure Earth’s work reducing and preventing mercury poisoning from gold mining, as well as cleaning up toxic pollution in some of the world’s worst polluted places.
To prove once and for all that rethinking material sourcing doesn’t mean sacrificing design, the nonprofit enlisted some of the coolest jewelry labels around for its latest endeavor, the Heavy Metal auction. — Vogue
