A big thank you to Mike Doherty, President/CEO of Building Maintenance Services; Ralph Scopo from Classic, the team from Royal Waste, and all the other industry folks who turned out in force to support this year’s Pure Earth golf benefit.

As many of you know,  the nonprofit Pure Earth was established by Great Forest president Richard Fuller in part to help make a bigger impact on environmental issues beyond our shores.

Today, Pure Earth is  a leader in global toxic pollution cleanup, working in over 20 countries, dedicated to improving the lives of millions of people, especially children, who are most at risk from the threat of toxic pollution. Pure Earth works in partnerships that include governments, the international community, NGOs and local agencies, to design and implement innovative, low-cost solutions.

Your generosity helped to raise over $125,000 to allow Pure Earth to continue cleanup projects in some of the world’s worst polluted communities.

In between holes, many of you tried Pure Earth’s “toxic” cocktail (actually, green beer) at the lunch/snack station. The bright-colored brew helped to raise awareness about lead poisoning worldwide — the focus of this year’s golf benefit.

What is ULAB?

  • A lab for genetically modifying ewes?
  • A used lead acid battery
  • An unhappy labrador

Many of you took Pure Earth’s tee-shirt quiz to find out.  The answer: used lead acid batteries.  The recycling of ULABs is a dangerous, toxic job that many poor families do to make a living. It is also the cause of the #1 childhood environmental health threat globally.

Just before dinner, Mike Doherty stepped up again to help during the charity auction.
